PAINT PRODUCT RENDERS

18 SKU Product Line · Photorealistic CGI

The Project

A Full Product Line in Photorealistic CGI

A paint brand required high-fidelity 3D renders of their entire portfolio — 18 paint product SKUs across plastic bucket and tin bucket formats, designed for use in digital catalogues, e-commerce, marketing materials, and packaging approvals. Each render needed to reflect accurate label artwork, brand colour reproduction, and surface material characteristics — from matte distemper to high-gloss enamel.

The brief was clear: replace physical photoshoots with a fully CG pipeline that could be updated, extended, and repurposed across the product range indefinitely.

The Challenge

Replace Photography with a Scaleable CG Pipeline

The scale of the brief meant photography was not viable: 18 different label artworks across three physical bucket forms, each requiring perfect label alignment, consistent lighting, and photorealistic surface finish. The challenge was building a system that could render the full range efficiently, maintain consistency across SKUs, and produce files clean enough for every downstream use — print, digital, and packaging proof.

The Approach

One Mesh. Eighteen Labels. Complete Consistency.

Three bucket geometries were modelled: a 4-litre plastic bucket, a 4-litre tin bucket, and a 5-litre jumbo plastic bucket. Each shared a single precision-modelled mesh that served as the base for all SKUs. Label artwork was UV-mapped directly onto the mesh geometry from client-supplied packaging files, with surface materials assigned to match each product's finish: matte for distemper, semi-gloss for mid-range, high-gloss for enamel and premium tiers.

THE PROCESS

How It Was Made

01

Model & Rig

Three base mesh geometries built in Cinema 4D: 4LTR plastic, 4LTR tin, and 5LTR jumbo bucket. Clean UV unwrap for precise label placement across all bucket curvature and handle geometry.

02

Label & Material Application

Client-provided label artwork placed per-SKU via UV mapping. Surface shaders built to match product-specific finishes: matte distemper, satin mid-range, and high-gloss enamel, using Physical Render materials tuned against reference photography.

03

Lighting & Scene

Studio three-point lighting with an HDRI environment map for natural reflection and fill. Render settings tuned to capture both diffuse product colour and specular highlight behaviour for each finish type.

04

Render & Deliver

Each SKU rendered at 6000×6000px with a full alpha channel (RGB + transparency pass) for maximum compositing flexibility. Delivered as a complete catalogued render library for client-side use across print, web, and packaging approvals.
